Case Study - Automatic Management System for Raw Materials (AGC Inc.)

The dashboard displays remaining quantities, automatically updates inventory management tables, and allows for automatic ordering from suppliers, enabling real-time monitoring of tank levels from remote locations.

The "Smart Inventory System" is an automatic management system for raw materials newly developed by AGC. By attaching RFID tags linked to raw material data to all raw material containers and collecting tag information through sensors installed at building entrances and exits, it has become possible to grasp the storage and usage history of raw material data in real time. Additionally, for tanks that were previously managed visually, such as caustic soda, the remaining quantity has been digitized, and a dedicated measuring device has been installed to enable remote monitoring of tank inventory and the development of a system that can automatically place orders. The "Smart Inventory System" consists of two components: the raw material inventory management system and the tank inventory management system. For the tank inventory management system, a cloud-based inventory management system that realizes the digital transformation (DX) of procurement operations has been co-developed with our company. It allows for real-time display of remaining quantities on a dashboard, automatic updates of inventory management tables, and automatic ordering to suppliers. An IoT framework has been established to monitor tank remaining quantities in real time from remote locations via mobile lines, utilizing sensors and gateway devices attached to the tanks. The gateway devices employ our CONPROSYS(R) TM series.

Import miscellaneous expenses mainly refer to various costs such as customs duties, customs clearance fees, and transportation costs. According to Thai accounting standards, it is required that the inventory amount at the end of the month includes the amount of import miscellaneous expenses. Therefore, the product price of purchased products (the price stated on the invoice) must have these import miscellaneous expenses added to it, and inventory management and financial closing must be conducted based on that amount. Generally, the invoices for product purchases and those for customs duties and customs clearance fees are often received separately. In some business systems, there may not be a function to allocate import miscellaneous expenses to the inventory amount, leading to cases where the inventory amount for financial closing needs to be managed separately in Excel.
